Midlothian Pool League Finals Day 2007
League News2007 Midlothian Pool League, sponsored by Bryant & Cairns Windows & Conservatories season came to an end when they had there finals day at eashouses miners welfare just before xmas. With the presentation of a cheque for £1000 for the forthcoming season was recieved by the committee and increase of £300 on last year, Midlothian Pool league again would like to say a very big Thank you to Bryant & Cairs who have noe been sponsoring the league for the past7 years and long may it continue. A great venue for the finals. The league would like to thank the easthouses committee for all their hard work setting up the venue at short notice.

The Singles league, Pairs League, Player of the year and Knockout Cup had already been sorted out and the respectfull winners of the comps were, Top O The Toon-Single & Pairs League, Gary Gracey (T.O.T.T.) and Bilston Inn.

Finasl day saw the conclusion of the rest of the in house competition and the presentation of the annual trophies.

First final of the day saw Davie Kinnear and Pauline Selkirk win the Mixed Pairs Title narrowly beating Graham Roy and Angie Mackay. Next up was the Ladies Singles final, Pauline Selkirk against ex Scottish champ Angie Mackay. Pauline had chances to win the match but couldn't convert them and that let Angie in time after time to eventually take the match and title for the fist time.

The Senoirs Trophy was next Raymond Johnstone (BEX) bt Stevie Kerr (Rosewell) in the final. This is the 3rd time raymond has won the Seniors title. Next up five man team final saw TOTT take on Fishers Tryst. TOTT were hot favourites to take this title but the Tryst had other Ideas. In a match that went one way then the other it came down to a 1 frame decider. Stuart Hunter from the tryst capitalised on a mistake by the TOTT man and despatched the ball to win the trophy for the Fishers Tryst. 3 Man team final saw TOTT v TOTT, 2 threes from the same team so it was a light hearted affair as the trophy was gauranteed to go back to the TOTT. Open pairs was next up. Easthouses pair Simon Dixon and Davie Esson took on very strong favourites from TOTT Kev Nicolson and Gary Gracey. The TOTT pair were to be far to srong for the Easthouses pair and lifted the title. The under 21s final wasnot played as Scott Brown Could not make finals day, well done to Scott Kinnear(Navaar) on taking the title.

Last, but no means least was the pinnicle of the season. The Midlothian Open Singles Final. At first glance it looked like the final of the seniors trophy as both finalists were over 45. A second glance told me that it was the Single Final. All joking aside both players deserved to be their as they took out some of the League best players on the way to the final. James main (Captain of the now defunct Bilston Inn) took on the Seniors Champ From Bonnyrigg Exservicemans Club Raymond Johnstone. Jame went in to 1-0 lead only to see it slip away. At 2-1 up raymond went for an outrageous shot that resulted in the cluster of balls being smashed open and the black sliding into the middle pocket and him losing the frame. 2-2 now. I don't think Raymond could get that shot out of his mind as he left James chance after chance, which James tried his best to miss as the pressure became more apparent. Both player were by this time very shakey and you could see after every missed shot how much winning this title meant to each of them, the agony accompanied the ecstacy. Eventually James Took His chances and won the Match 4-2 to become MIdlothian Singles Champion 2007 and an automatic place in the 2008 Midlothian Superleague Team.

After the presentation of the trophies Davie Macnamara went on to thank Sponsors Bryant & Cairns, for the continued support of the League, Easthouse Miners for holding the Finals, The League Committee for all their hard work though the year and wished the player a merry xmas and happy new year an told them the AGM meeting would be on Tue 15th January at Waverley Inn 8.00pm sharp.

Kingdom Cup
League NewsRecently at Styx Pool Hall In Glenrothes. A weekened Midlothian Superleague team did the unspeakable and went on to win The first ever Kingdon Cup. The were 9 teams in attendance ranging from Dundee to Airdrie. The team were split into two groups. In the Midlothian group were Midlothian, Monklands, East Fife 'A', East Fife 'B' and Cowdenbeath. Midlothian lost their first game against Monklands but bounced backto win the next three matches and finish joint top of the group. wethen had to play a 1 frame play-off to see who won the group but unfortunately we lost it. giving us a harder semi final. That didn't bother us though as we were right up for it. we played Kircaldy in the semi and convincingly despatched them with their tales between their legs. In the final we faced a tough task against the mighty Dundee team who hadn't lost a game all day. With the score at 4-2 to Midlothian Tam Peters was at the table with 3 balls left to pot. He cooly slotted them home and Midlothian could start to celebrate. A great day was had by all.

Team: Danny Lunn, Gary Gracey, Tam Peters, Andy Anderson, Chris Ferrier, Kim Black, Darren Raine, Danny Turner, Graham Roy, Russell Young and Ronnie Ferrier.

Monday Tuesday League
League NewsOn monday 29th of October 2007, the Midlothian Summer Single league had their finals night and presentation. The league started earlier this year at the Bilston Inn and moved to the Fishers Tryst in August after Bilston Inn shut down.

20 players on a monday night and 16 on a tuesday. Played all through the summer, with the eventual winners of Danny Lunn on a Monday and Phil Wilson on a tuesday night. Danny won the monday league by a coupel of pionts from Gary Gracey and Danny Turner who finished joint second. Gary won a playoff to take second place outright, with kev Nicolson finishing 4th. The Tuesday leaguer was alot closer with a 3 way playoff between Phil Wilson, Kev Rae and Kev Selkirk. Both Kev Rae and Phil beat Kevin Selkirk relegating him to 3rd place. then Phil and Kev Rae played to see who would win the ttle outright. The match went down to the last to balls with Phils playing an amazing combonations shot to lift the title. There was a new league introduced to run at the same time as the proper matches were being played. This was the 1st frame league. Each player had to record who won the first frame of each match they payed culminating in Gary Gracey winning the Monday 1st frame league and Phil Wilson winning the Tuesday. After the the league were settled there was three different single competition run. the tuesday league had their own singles competition and the Monday league had theirs. The tuesday league all the names went into the hat and a draw was made with the eventual winner being Ross Fernie or Rosewell beating Phil Wilson of Rosewell 6-0. The monday league was a little different. The league was split in two and two draws were done. top half draw and a bottom half draw. Thebottom half saw Stuart meikle take on GavinLunn in the final. A close match which Stuart won 6-4. The top half saw Kev Nicolson take on Dany Turner. Kev, try as he might, just couldn't get the ball to run right for him, which let Danny in time after time. Danny went on to win the match 6-2. A shor time after Big Tam Ramsay form the Fishers Tryst presented the prizes to all the winners.

I would like to thak Tam for getting 3 brand new Simply Pool Tables in to his pub, which made the league run the same as it did in the Bilston Inn. Without these table the league would not have been the same and this is why the Fishers Tryst is the BEST pool venue in Midlothian today.
